TCIS is utilizing the most widely used international curriculum by Cambridge – IGCSE from London. The Cambridge Primary Program (CPP) curriculum is being established at TCIS and has entered the Cambridge Secondary 1 and will gradually establish the Cambridge IGCSE and Advance (A & AS) programs in coming years. Our School Concept for all grades emphasizes strong academics coupled with programs and strategies that meet the needs of the whole child. Along-with more advanced international curriculum of Cambridge IGCSE for their formal education, the student of TCIS will learn scriptural languages like Sanskrit or Arabic or Hebrew or Greek etc depending on their choice at the level of IGCSE. This will help them study and understand their respective divine scriptures for their moral and ethical developments.

Students in all divisions benefit from strong academic programs in International Math, International science, languages, Arts & Crafts, Social studies (humanities), Sanskrit or Arabic etc., visual and dramatic arts, technology, Health awareness and Physical Education. World class Laboratories for Science are developed as per the Cambridge IGCSE recommendations to teach everything practically right from Primary school. There will be separate laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, Languages, Social Studies and Art & Craft for true learning experiences through learning by doing and experimentation. Specialist teachers are provided for Sanskrit, Arabic and also for Technology and ECEC (Early Childhood Education Center) . We believe that a well-designed and supported curriculum is necessary for the school to achieve its educational vision and aims. The curriculum at TCIS is based upon the programmes of the University of Cambridge, starting with Cambridge Primary and moving through Cambridge Secondary 1 to IGCSE, AS and A Level in the senior years. Ultimately, the qualifications which can be obtained by our senior students can open the doors to universities all over the world. From the UK to Germany, Australia to the USA, and here in India; Cambridge qualifications are universally recognized and most popular worldwide.

The Cambridge framework provides curricula for the key subjects of English, Mathematics and Science in Primary (5 – 11years) and Secondary 1 (11 – 14 years).  As a second language, Arabic or Sanskrit is part of a curriculum at TCIS offered by Cambridge IGCSE. In the IGCSE (14 – 16 year), apart from languages, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and student can opt to have subjects like History, Geography, Global perspective, computer science, business studies, enterprise and many more.

Learners who follow this curriculum framework will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding. In mathematics, this curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. The science curriculum includes scientific enquiry which is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning, investigating, recording and analyzing data.

 

Curriculum and Teaching methodology

Much of the ‘learning’ that children receive in schools nowadays, is largely rote and thus lacks in-depth understanding of a subject. ‘Knowledge’ is built up only on a thorough understanding of a subject, which is put to test in real-life competition. To acquire knowledge through ‘proper learning’ in order to contribute meaningfully to tomorrow’s world, the students and schools need a paradigm shift in the way they look at ‘learning’.

To give our students the best of the world and making learning a joyful experience School has adopted three most advanced learning systems, Lab Based Learning (LBL), Project Based Learning (PBL), and Online Learning management System (LMS), right from Primary.

A team of highly qualified specialists coordinate the entire teaching program and learning systems at TCIS under the guidance of the President.

 

Academic Counselor/Manager (AC) : Caretaker of all academic activities in school. Follows and guide the curriculum daily with teachers. Also moderate, evaluate and conduct test and semester exam.

Exam Coordinator (EC): Conduct the random and monthly test and prepare the record and share with AC and LA.

LMS Analyst (LA) : Evaluate internal test papers and projects records for PBL and prepare the reports and organize the online LMS for all students.

Principal: Manages and administer all these activities

 

 

Laboratory based Learning (LBL)

Laboratory based Learning occurs in a laboratory environment and is a form of learning through practical experimentation. Students undertake practical work which develops experimental skills, data collection and analytical capabilities, problem solving skills and professional practice. Lab-based learning is an environment conducive to meaningful, deep learning by challenging students to problem-solve through hands-on experience. Lab-based learning promotes active learning, effective decision making through critical thinking, and when working in small groups can further develop students’ cooperative skills. There are a number of opportunities to enhance the laboratory environment by integrating theory with practice and blending other active learning strategies such as Project Based Learning (PBL) with lab based learning to provide enhanced higher level reasoning skills.

We at TCIS, starts LBL from standard III (Stage 4) onwards. The laboratories with advance desk-bench combination where a student can perform an experiment or activity while standing and then can write his/her notes at the same place by pulling up the desk-stand has been specially designed and developed by TCIS.

All syllabus topics are explained to students through experimental kits, equipment’s and instruments by the teachers and then are given to students to perform the same. After that, students write their own notes/write-ups in their notebook and the teacher correct them if it is not written properly. There is no black-board writing of questions-answers by teachers.

 

 

 

 

Project Based Learning (PBL)

Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which student gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. PBL is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they’re studying and connect it to their daily life. PBL is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills.

At TCIS, PBL starts from standard III (stage 4). In the main subjects of English, Mathematics and Science students perform projects at the end of each chapter/unit. The project for science and Mathematics, necessarily involves some observations and measurements where each student collects his/her own data without the help of parents and instruments outside the school (at home). The data is tabulated in the practical record book and plotted in the graph paper. The results obtained are noted and conclusion is drawn and written by students in their own way and words within a period of 10 days. After the submission teacher corrects the project and suggest the necessary corrections or measurements to students.

A power point presentation (PPT) of the measurements, data table, graphs, results and conclusion drawn by students are prepared by each students in their own tablet/laptop. It is then presented in the classroom in front of all students and teacher by each student. During the presentation other students are encouraged to ask questions in a very positive and learning environment.

This will inculcate and developed in student the scientific approach and temperament while they collect and analyze data, prepare and plot the results and draw their own conclusions.  It will also prepare students to present their projects in front of class and face the questions and answer right from standard elementary classes.

 

Online Learning Management System (LMS)

A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology courses or training programs for students.

The web portal designed for the LMS contains several thousands of videos on each and every topic of Mathematics, Science, and English for each grade/age. The video is of fixed duration of 6 minutes. Students have the control to replay any section or part of the video and on the speed of audio to listen comfortably.

At TCIS, online LMS is operational right from standard III (stage 4). Our teacher selects the topic or videos for students. This can be same or different for different students depending on the students understanding of the topic/subject.  After watching the 6 minute video the students is asked 6 question in each difficulty level (Total 3 level and 18 questions). After each question the student is offered option of watching the video again or recording the answer. The student can watch the video again and again till s/he gets the concept clear and solves the question by himself. Once he/she solves the six questions of level 1, the student is given another 6 questions of little higher in difficulty in level 2 and then 6 questions of level 3. Once students are done with all three levels his complete report with analysis is sent through email to the teacher. The student is awarded some points on each attempt and question so his point keeps on increasing as he solves more questions.

Our school has provide high speed Wi-Fi facility to students where they can use online learning managements systems to develop their concepts and application of knowledge by solving problems on every aspect of the subject or topic given in the syllabus.

Each student has been registered on the portal with his/her account (associated with teachers account) and all the activities on the portal are recorded and sent to the teacher. The teacher can easily understand the difficulty areas and issues with the students and hence can solve effectively.
